Thursday October 28th Las Vegas NV -- Double Down Saloon with Skorchamenza ][ show poster ][ So, we played a show on Thursday night at the Double Down with HILLSTOMP, (thanks everyone for coming out and rocking with us). They are a Mississippi style blues duo from Portland, and let me just say that they bring the pain, and it's up to your ass to know what to do with it. I was completely blown away by their style, and grace on stage. The drummer played with a bass drum, some buckets, a metal bowl, and a wasboard among other things. If you want to see something truly original, check these guys out at www.hillstomp.com. Do yourself a favor, and let them know you like it, because they are d**n good. thanks guys, the wooden nickels are in the mail!

Dirty Blue Country WED 7/14 Any band that uses plastic buckets as drums is OK by us. But Hillstomp also has rave reviews from music zines, a rabid Black Keys crossover fan base, and a brand-new CD to recommend it. One Word, a cranky reminder about the group's name, boasts stripped-down, hooch-fueled psycho-blues screeds against bad guys like grave robbers and landlords. Storm the stage at 9 p.m. at the Plough and Stars, 116 Clement (at Second Avenue), S.F. Admission is free; call 751-1122 or visit http://pweb.jps.net/~jgilder/plough.html. -- Hiya Swanhuyser
THANKS also to SF Bay Guardian for making us their "8 Days a Week" Pick ::
No honky-tonk It's not every day that urbanites get to experience the hill country music of northern Mississippi, and it's even rarer to hear this regional blues set to high-energy punk. Portland duo Hillstomp twist all notions of country by playing pulsating rhythms mixed with hints of R.L. Burnside, Indian drone, and Southern bluegrass. Henry Kammerer plays erratic slide guitar and doles out husky vocals while John Johnson creates percussion out of found objects: plastic buckets, cans, and cardboard boxes. The effect is raucous and sure to leave the more ambitious audience members toe-tapping and two-stepping. 9 p.m., Plough and Stars, 116 Clement, S.F. Free. (415) 751-1122. (Stephanie Laemoa)

Tuesday June 22nd@ The Twilight Cafe 10pm W/ Rum Runner " Miracles happen, and tonight it's Hillstomp. Sounding like 20 Miles (sans Stones hogwash) cold showering with Bob Log III (absent blue-comedy bull), this duo of Fat Possum teat-suckers knows how to work a room. Sure, our snooty local "blues community" can't hang with the cheap slide theatrics and junkyard rhythmics. Fine. But how many of those open-mic jerk-offs can KILL at a lesbian crawfish boil? That's what I thought. (SDS)" ~ Willamette Week
thanks to rum runner too for some kind words "Anyway, we played with an amazing local blues combo called Hillstomp who opened and headlined the show with us in the middle. As soon as we get our links page going we’ll put a link up for them and they have to be checked out."

Sat May 1st The Ash St Saloon opening for Split Lip Rayfield with I can lick any Sonofabitch in the House. Thanks to WWeek for th: "Each of these bands likes its traditional sound with some big ol' balls. Members of Wichita's Split Lip Rayfield shred their bluegrass into a fine mulch, courtesy of some riotous banjo and the one-of-a-kind one-string gas-tank bass. Locals Hillstomp and I Can Lick Any S.O.B. in the House give a similar treatment to the blues. (MB) [BLUEGRASS STOMP] Ash Street, 225 Sw Ash St., 226-0430. 9 pm. Cover. 21+."

&
"John and Henry's "hill country punk blues" was highly recommended by SOB's Mike Damron and they did not disappoint. Their rootsy sound is enhanced with vocal distortion and John's homemade drum kit constructed primarily of plastic buckets and cans. The boy also plays a mean washboard. Songs like "Shake 'Em On Down" had the crowd stamping their feet and clapping along." - Sin City Sounds

Look no further than Hillstomp, a DIY duo of local boys gone wild. Armed with a collection of precariously made instruments, a boozy 'tude and a hint of a punk-rock past, Hillstomp is a small group (just two of 'em) that throws down in a large way. This week the band takes on the normally jazzy Blue Monk. (KC) [BLUES]"
