HILLSTOMP * Presskit
A Treasury of Hillstompy Reviews

some older reviews...

#1 ALBUM OF THE YEAR ?!?
for some reason Willamette Week listed us before all the other fine albums that came out in 2005?
"From start to finish The Woman that Ended the World is a fine effort. While I often expect a self-released disc to be low on recording and production values, Hillstomp’s disc can compete with big label endeavors on all fronts. Already a contender for top-10 best albums of 2006 in my book, there is absolutely nothing amiss about this record."

Delusions of Adequacy
6 out of 6 ain't bad, is it?
~ Bjorn, Radio Ung, Kristiansand, Norway
"The bandmates balance the primitive drone of the Southern hills with a concentrated postpunk attack that keeps the music moving at a fever pitch. Before rock and roll, people danced to the blues, as Hillstomp reminds us with a thunderous groove." according to the Miami New Times.
a nice long review on blogcritics.org
Here are some recent-ish reviews in Willamette Week, Portland Mercury again , Oregonian OregonLive , Eugene Register-Guard , Salem Statesman Journal , and West Coast Performer.
"In the wide world of the blues there are legends, wanna-bes and those who take the art one more step forward and Hillstomp has proven here that it is firmly entrenched in the latter camp." ~ F5 Wichita
baby sue / LMNOP claims HILLSTOMP is unpretentious
alt country.nl gave the new cd 4 ponies & a bunch of kind words
thanks to babelfish for the translation -----
Immediately after their first action in spring of 2001 were possible Henry Kammerer and John Johnson to the cellar where they started their musical 'career'. To practise, but also to put a new drumstel in each other. Johnsons from a hamper box, plastic bucket and barbequedeksel existing 'drumstel' the fire test of Hillstomp had not survived, as it happens. Meanwhile the kit sits what in each other, but Bbq-deksel have remained more firmly. Thus on The Woman That Ended The World (own management), the second complete cd of the two-high rolling mill from Portland is hear, Oregon. Hillstomp normaalgesproken only let through the blues to hear such as those fat Possum-baas Matthew Johnson in the mississippi backwoods to be dug up. Brutally, raw, rough, dark, elementary. John Johnson batter on everything what kind of hands are, whereas Henry Kammerer with its slide try jet ear and hypnotising voice expell the devil. Heal from time to time helped by what guest TOMs press. David lip child (I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in The house) blows for example being scorched harmonica on Shake It (a number that its title all honour to does). Hillstomp lend from time to time to a number from the real mississippi delta (Fred McDowell, Muddy water), but its own songs do not do for this real. Although thousands of kilometres happen removed of the levee and hillocks of North mississippi, the sound of Hillstomp considerably valid. A fine surprise from unexpected wind regions for liefhebbers of the North Mississippi Allstars and R.L. Burnside. (Peer Bataille)
